JWMC utilizes a standards based approach to IV&V. IV&V services are based on industry standards and models such as IEEE 1012 (Standard for software verification and validation), the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), and the Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI).
Additional industry standards can also be used to further define IV&V activities. For example, requirements can be assessed against standards such as IEEE 830 (Recommended Practice for Software Requirements Specifications) and IEEE 1223 (Guide for Developing System Requirements Specifications), testing activities can be assessed against IEEE 829 (Standard for Software Test Documentation), configuration management activities can be assessed against IEEE 828 (Standard for Software Configuration Management Plans), etc. In addition to IEEE and ISO standards JWMC can also utilize industry models such as CMMI and PMBOK to assess process and industry best practice compliance. The diagram below overlays common international standards and industry best practices on the full lifecycle of IV&V.
