is the premier cybersecurity and risk management conference that  brings together experts and practitioners from throughout Europe. Risk management practitioners from a wide range of industries, including finance, banking, tech services, government, insurance, medical and more will converge on Geneva Switzerland in October to dive deep into information security and discuss cybersecurity's impact across all fields of information systems and technology.

Please join me for my session NextGen Risk Management. Disruptive technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and nanotechnology are driving change at an unprecedented rate. AI can accomplish in four hours today what took humans a thousand years or more to accomplish.

Since 2010, major environmental risk events have increased 500% compared to the previous three decades. Increased frequency and impact of risk events is a product of market disruption driven largely by disruptive technologies and an infinitely more complex risk environment. Unfortunately risk management practices have lagged technology innovation for more than a decade and are insufficient for the complex risk environments we face today. We will use case studies and real-life experiences to illustrate shortcomings of existing risk management practices in today’s highly complex, fast-paced environments. This session will present a heuristic control environment and bimodal risk management as the next generation of risk management. A heuristic control environment re-imagines detective controls as “risk hunters” that actively seek out emerging threats, attack vectors, and geopolitical conditions that can signal an emerging risk event. Bimodal risk management blends traditional techniques with new decision theory to cope with incomplete information, manage disruption and seeks to maximize opportunities. Bimodal risk management uses information from heuristic controls to begin managing risk events much earlier in their life cycle.

Risk Philosophy

My personal risk philosophy is, keep it simple, be sensitive to your surroundings so you can quickly adapt to the changing environment, stay focused on the most important objectives and most importantly follow a disciplined approach and don't get distracted by all the noise in the environment.

About the JWMC Logo

After publishing my first book,Chaos to Clarity, I stumbled upon an article that described the ancient rune Jera (pronounced Year . Ra). The runic alphabet emerged sometime between the 1st century BCE and the 2nd century. The runic alphabet known as Elder Futhark consists of 24 runes one of which is Jera. I noticed an interesting relationship between the description of Jera and two important risk management principles; stay focused and practice a disciplined approach.
